Farm machinery maintenance and safety was the vital topic for members of the Young Farmers Club in Somerset at a special workshop held by Massey Ferguson at the premises of its local dealer, MST in South Petherton.

“Farming remains one of the country’s most hazardous industries and it’s crucial to communicate a strong safety message to all those involved,” says Michael Butland, Massey Ferguson Technical Service Specialist who led the workshop.

With support from The Farm Safety Foundation and AGCO Parts, the evening event covered both theory and practice. Topics included why farm safety matters, the importance of an annual tractor safety check and guidance on how to carry out daily checks on machinery.

Thanking Massey Ferguson and MST for hosting the workshop, Ed Down, Chairman of the Somerset Young Farmers’ Clubs said: “Everyone had a great evening and there was good feedback from all the members who attended.”

The evening finished off with a prize draw with the winner taking home a £100 voucher to spend on Massey Ferguson merchandise at MST.

More Massey Ferguson safety and maintenance workshops for young farmers are planned for the autumn, once the busy harvest season is over.
