Hydraulic Filters

Protecting Tractor and Implement System

AGCO Technician Ash Briggs explains why well-maintained hydraulic filters are crucial to your performance.

Let’s face it, modern tractors are, in effect, large, moving hydraulic systems. Steering, transmission functions, lifting, braking and implement operation all rely on clean hydraulic oil.

Hydraulic systems do not operate in isolation. The implements connected to the tractor share oil, meaning contamination can move in both directions.

A poorly maintained implement can introduce debris into the tractor’s hydraulic system, just as contaminated tractor oil can cause problems within an implement.

An AGCO Parts Hydraulic Filter

If hydraulic filters are not serviced correctly, several issues can arise:

  • Abrasive particles circulate through valves, pumps and motors, accelerating internal wear.

  • Control valves may become sluggish or begin to stick.

  • Pump efficiency can be reduced, leading to increased heat generation and loss of performance.

  • Contamination can be transferred between the tractor and the implement, increasing the risk of failure across both.

Regular hydraulic filter changes help keep oil clean, protect precision components, and reduce the likelihood of costly repairs, both on the tractor and on attached implements.
