SMART Safety Forestry

Whether you are working on trees at a height or using potentially dangerous equipment like a chainsaw it’s critical you pay proper attention to your safety.

4 things you should know about aerial tree work

Sadly, many farmers are injured each year while working at height. That’s why it is crucial all aerial tree work is carried out by people who are competent and have been trained in work positioning techniques and safety procedures.

  1. A minimum of two people must be present during all aerial work.

  2. One of the ground team must be available, competent and equipped to do an aerial rescue without delay.

  3. Appropriate personal protection equipment must be used.

  4. It’s important to maintain effective communication at all times between the climber and ground team.

Working with chainsaws

Chainsaws can cause fatal or major injuries if not used correctly. It is vital that anyone using a chainsaw is fully trained, competent, and wears the appropriate protective clothing (safety helmet, hearing and eye protection, boots, leg and groin protection) and to the correct safety standard.
